We stayed in the Gaslamp Quarter, the Historic Downtown area of San Diego! This is one of the gaslamps that lined the streets!
On Sunday, Aug 8th we packed a lunch a headed to the Annual U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition held at Imperial Beach in San Diego. I was so excited for this event! The beach was nice and the sandcastles were amazing!
The guy in yellow has put the black plastic around his sand to keep it in place while he sculpts. They piled sand into these plastic tarps and then soaked them to keep the sand from falling apart. It was interesting to see the process of making these lifesize sculptures!
Got oil? I loved this sculpture, so creative!
This fisherman is pulling oil out of the fishes mouth, and next to him is a fish dead with its tongue out and an oyster with x's in its eyes. Alot of the sculptures focused around the oil spill in the Gulf. I loved this one!
This one was cool, it's as if they dug up this sea monster's skeleton!

Chicks in Bikinis!
The guy who sculpted this mother hugging her children used plastic a knife! Amazing!
And this is the finished sandcastle that before had the black plastic tarp wrapped around it, beautiful!
Thousands of people came out for this event!
On Monday, Aug 9th, we went to Sea World. The last time I was at Sea World was 7 years ago, and it was still just as enjoyable! Shamu rocks!
Cirque de La Mer acrobats! These guys are the fittest I have ever seen, who can do this, not many!
We had some fun and took some silly shots before the Shamu Rocks night show!
Tuesday, Aug 10th we drove down pretty much to the Mexican border and shopped at the Las Americas Outlet! None of us had been that close to the border before and we couldn't help take a picture of the fence behind us and if you look close you can see Mexico's flag (to the right of my head)!
After shopping we went to a Padres game at Petco Park! I had bought a SD padres baseball hat earlier and sported it at the game! Mom and I bought hot dogs and we all had crackerjacks! We sure enjoyed singing "Take me out to the ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch! We sat behind the right field, and we even got to see the right fielder hit 2 HOME RUNS!!! Fireworks and flames went off to celebrate his home runs. The Padres beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1.
Wednesday, Aug 11th we went to the World Famous, San Diego Zoo! It truly is spectacular! The layout and size of the zoo is beautiful and the amount and type of animals they have there is amazing. My favorite animals I saw were the koalas (who, as a reminder, are not bears :), the pandas, and the largest hippos I think I've ever seen in my life.
Oh, so precious!
These Meerkats were so hilarious. A helicoptor flew overhead and they all just stared at it.
The elephants were spraying dirt on themselves to keep themselves cool!
This polar bear is eating his lunch, a carrot and lettuce! I'm sure they want their seals.
Up close and personal you might think! This giraffe must have no fear because the people standing below were pretty close and the caretaker had to tell them to not touch the animals. I didn't zoom in too far to take this picture, such curious animals!
This painting is beautiful, done by a guy part of Splash Animals. A group who performs, paints with their hands, and involves water in their picture of an animal. The crowd was finally able to guess it was a Gorilla!
Hahaha, you might wonder "what is this", well it is from a shirt, but we did see this on a sign as we merged onto the freeway leaving the Outlets near the Mexican border. It said "CAUTION" and then had this picture below it. I wasn't able to get my camera out in time so I was excited to see a shirt and snapped a picture of it then. So sad, but funny!
